"Upshot" didn't follow the rules
Here are the rules:
"The application you or your team submits must:
...
• have been developed solely as part of this Hackathon"
Here is "Upshot", the winning project being presented well before the Hackathon was even announced:
http://www.meetup.com/Salesforce-com-Integration-Analytics/events/136920332/
How is this fair or legit?

This is straight out WRONG:
Participants may begin forming their teams and working on their entry (each, an “Entry” and, together, the “Entries”) as early as October 25, 2013.
And from OCTOBER 8
Thomas Kim, CTO & Founder, UPSHOT
Formerly an engineer at Salesforce for 9 years. Lead engineer on Salesforce Analytics. Tech lead for Custom Report Types and many other reporting features. Currently CTO of UPSHOT. We are using NLP and Machine Learning to create a radically simplified way to query and explore your data.
Creating even simple reports in Salesforce is a complex task. Even experienced users have difficulty creating reports with outer joins, exception reports, etc. Our product UPSHOT lets you query Salesforce data in a simpler and more accessible interface.

Users who have never created a report in Salesforce before can use our interface immediately with no training. Our goal is to enable every user in your organization to ask data questions without having to learn SQL or a complicated tool. We're currently seeking users to participate in a private beta of our product. Check out our Beta Program Questionnaire "

They just started giving more money to the runner ups. I think we have to keep the pressure up to make this thing legit. The last laugh will be on me if upshot gets DQ'd and my counterpart in the competition get's a million dollars :) But it's for a good cause.

I agree. I say we can't let this go. Or the space will get meaningless. You'll see companies entering apps. You versus snapchat. Keep it clean and fair. Spread to anyone you know was there. And if they have analytics on what happened during review tweet to #dfnolaunch

You can also add your voice to Salesforce's own developer forums: http://boards.developerforce.com/t5/Salesforce-1-Million-Hackathon/bd-p/dfHackathon

If you can rope in the observations from anyone else you know, that would be really great. I'm trying to put a picture together of what they actually did

Unbelievable, guys. The info that we pieced together is now bringing information to light. From adweek: http://www.adweek.com/news/technology/winner-salesforces-hackathon-under-fire-154077

I just created a listly with the purpose of listing all the apps developed at the Salesforce Hackathon. Please post yours and let the web decide the winner. Just for the glory :-)

I had an idea pontschek. What if we found a new sponsor who would host the actual judging openly. Everyone who participated gets transferred. And we build it off the list. Google. Or Microsoft
